TECH TIPS

Hot Joint

Always ensure the cable is secured down on the terminal block. If this is not done properly a hot joint may occur due to the high resistance involved, and the terminal block may melt.

Dimming

When dimming a Torema toroidal transformer, if you are in any doubt about a dimmer's suitability please contact us. Some trailing and leading edge dimmers draw up to 30 times the rated input current, which causes the dimmer to fail.

Mounting

When using the neoprene washer and metal disc mounting configuration, do not over-tighten the centre bolt. This may result in a turn-to-turn short circuit.

Magnetic  Shield

If the toroidal transformer is going to be used within close proximity of electronic equipment, a magnetic shield may be require to stop the unwanted electrical noise interfering with sensitive electronic equipment.

Air Circulation

Always keep the transformer well ventilated, as the temperature rise of the toroidal transformer will rise to approximately 50 degrees Celsius plus the ambient temperature. Lack of air circulation will overheat the transformer causing it to burn out. Alternatively if a thermal switch has been installed the thermal switch will start to cycle.
